Day 4 GER 2011

Dunkled to Wyandra
There was a bit a carnage reported today, but no one got hurt

Terry and Vicky hit the tree causing damage to their bonnet and maybe the chasis
John Ledbetter hit a tree causing minor damage to a rear light and maybe some cosmetic damage to the rear of the car
Car 042 blew 2 tyres and rolled on its side, looks like a broken front passenger window and some panel damage but the boys are back on the road again with a sheet of plastic in the window, might be a trip tp town for a new window tomorrow
Wizards of Oz hit a cow, or the cow hit them, both are fine I think.  The boys used a winch to pull their bonnet flat and pull the lights out and will need to replace the lights when they get home but otherwise not too bad.

Rained all day and was very slippery, there doesn't look to be a shower at the Wyandra hall, and we are wet and muddy, well Brad is muddier than me after changing the flat tyre.  We brought a brand new tyre just before we left and that is the one that is flat, a well if the rain keeps up it might be a trip straight to Charliville tomorrow so plenty of time to get the tyre fixed

Due to the rain a lot of people slept in a shed at an old train station with empty barrels of beer around them.  They did not fancy rolling out their swags in the mud and rain.  A little local auction tonight to raise money for Cancer and also for Kids of the bush schooling.  Oh and tonight is the first for the trip where we are inside for dinner, there is a building YAHOOOOO.  We couldn't have the heaters on while they were cooking and serving dinner because there was not enough power.  They couldn't even use the fridge for the drinks but rather served them out of eskies with ice.  I love coming to these little towns where the locals go all out so that we have a great time

Day 3 GER 2011

Boolba to Dunkled

This was one of our favourite days ever.  The locals and property owners got involved in making this day fantastic.  We were held up by bush rangers on one property, we managed to bribe them with lollies and got away safely.  Another property set up a rough creek crossing that we had a bit of fun with.  We have some video footage of this and if we have worked out how to download it you will be able to see it here.

Dunkled was the location for the Great Endeavour Monster Auction.  We supplied an Ozpig which one of the local farmers paid $540 for and also a mixed carton of our wine which sold for $220.  I’d say several thousands of dollars were raised for the Endeavour Foundation.

Dunkled is a Golf Club and a game of night golf was set up with golf balls that lit up when you heated them up under a heat lamp.  Some mischievous fun was had by a few with the one and only Golf buggy - I think the locals were the ring leaders, maybe they don't get many visitors out in Dunkled

Day 2 GER 2011

From Flinton we head to Boolba for the Great Endeavour Rally B & S Ball (wear something starting with the letter B or S)  and you will see from the photos there were some very creative teams.  Brad wore a Bow tie and Bowler hat and his name starts with B, Stacey wore sequins, sequins, sequins and her name starts with S.  Others were a bit more fun than this, check out the slime bags.  This team is called s’not racing and their cars are lime green and so are all their costumes.  They are s’not (snot) racing because in their first year Road Boss would always tell them to slow down saying ‘it is not racing’ but over the radio is sounded like snot racing so the following year and all years since then they have been s’not racing.

Today on our first wacko section the students of Teelba school were out the front of their school to meet us.  There was probably only 15 of them and they were so excited to see all the cars and the funny costumes.

Today the car sustained a smallish dent when tree roots jumped out in front of it (Stacey was driving), we had a lot of long grass today and ohhhhhhh the dust and ohhhhhhhhh the gates.  We were warned about both, but man we did not expect that much dust, or that many gates.  Great fun, plenty of zippy ties, tape, wire and anything else people could get a hold of to slow down the oncoming car.

Have you ever seen a wild emu when you’ve been driving anywhere?  Well head to the Golden west!  They are everywhere, not only do we have kangaroos to look out for but also Emu’s pigs, dogs and cows.  It has to be said, the emu’s are a bit stupid!

Boolba has a population of 0, yes that is right 0.  We have the stubbie cooler to prove it.  There is some tennis courts which come in handy if you want to run a horse race.  Get yourselves on a rally if you want to know how to run a horse race on  tennis courts.

We had -3 overnight but a lovely 2 when we got up

Day 1 GER 2011

Only -3 this morning at the start line.  It was COLD.  A couple of cars needed to make a couple of last minute repairs before the bell then all got under way with no problems.  Hot Rockers is starting in the top 10 this year YAHOOOOOOO.

We aimed to stand out a little bit this year, you’ll notice our Driving costumes are not really inconspicuous.   Hopefully we get some media coverage for our sponsors and supporters this way.  Seems to of worked so far we did a very short section for the channel 10 news, hopefully it airs.

Our first Wacko section is a class 7.  What the hell is a class 7.  Last year the roughest sections were a class 6 and we don’t know what to expect from a 7.  I think a 7 would be about right.  There were hard to see turns, humps, dips, sand and lots of quick changes to keep the driver and the navi busy.  A really fun section to get us started, although maybe not really fair for the newbies - they might of struggled with some of the instructions.

The afternoon sections were not any easier.  We had 2 x creek crossings and lots of sand.  It was great to see a lot of the locals out to cheer us on, as most cars got stuck in at least one of the crossing.  Not the Subaru, we got through no problem, probably because of the excellent driving ability of Stacey, hehehehe

Everyone made it in safe and sound and there has been no reports of any breakdowns or accidents, event he Combie is still running and made it through the creek crossing without any dramas

We spent the night in Flinton, at the race course.   If you are ever looking for somewhere to do over the Easter Long Weekend head to Flinton for the Fliinton horse racing.  It is the one race day of the year and if our night is anything to go by you would have a fabulous time.

We got the Oz Pig out and it was very popular, as soon as one person stood up (to go to the toilet or bar) someone else came along and took their seat.  We got loads of positive feedback and hopefully people will go on line and buy one for themselves.

The beginning of the Great Endeavour Rally 2011

First picture is from our BBQ at the Endeavour Industries Gladstone a week ago.

The next couple of photos are from the registration day at Goondiwindi.
We left Calliope on Sunday 10th July for Goondiwindi at 0900 and after a couple of necessary pit stops landed in Goondiwindi at 1700.  It is a bit cold here something like -2 in the morning.  Registration was great with 15 new entrants and a couple of cars that have been before but didn't run last year so we hadn't seen them before.  After registration we did a lap down the main street with all the bells and whistles.  We made a fair bit of noise and it was great to see a lot of people come out of their houses and shops to check out the cars (and to collect the lollies that a lot of the cars were giving out).  No news of any mechanical damage as yet, but it is only registration day, might be a different story by the end of tomorrow.

We are hoping to get internet again at Charliville (fingers crossed)

Until then

May day long weekend took us on some very interesting tracks through central Queensland.

With a great group of people over 2 days, and was a good opportunity to give the car a run. (even though it sustained some rear end damage prior in suburban Gladstone)
